"Take off that vest. You look like Aladdin."'

The boys from Superbad...I finished this drawing a long time ago, but just got around to coloring it. I don't love the background color (or the background at all), so I will probably adjust that soon.

Remy

I decided to draw Moe some pictures of Remy (from Ratatouille) as an extremely generous and heartfelt gift for her starting culinary school this week. Again, it's all just pencil drawings colored in Photoshop. I made an attempt to do some shading, though it didn't come out super well. Need a bit more practice.

Photoshop experiment

I'm trying to make my work look more "organic" and not so flat like it usually turns out with Illustrator so I've been toying with using pencil lines and Photoshop combined, seeing what works and what doesn't.  This one doesn't really work, but like I said, experimenting.  Also, the dog was "inspired" by someone else's work (I cannot remember the name of the artist), with some of my own flourishes thrown in.

Moe!

I wanted to try out a new drawing technique in Photoshop and Moe was my guinea pig.  The mouth came out funny, but overall a success.

VOTE RICHARD FALLIS!

Here is our "newest" video from Fish Taco Productions.  It was shot quite awhile go, but I just finished editing and put it up on Youtube.

And here's the outtakes.

Go Team Venture!

So I have been watching a lot of The Venture Bros. lately and decided to draw the brothers themselves, Dean and Hank.  I used a screenshot from the show as reference but tinkered with their clothes (they were originally in astronaut costumes).  Also, I did NOT do the background.  That's just the show's logo which I found online, but it seemed to work well for the drawing.

MY NEW SITE!

So, my good friend Brad has created a site that has a bunch of my drawings and videos all in one, organized place.  It's pretty neat and has some cool "bells and whistles" (make sure your volume is NOT on full blast or Scott Joplin may burst your ear drums).  The site is found at:

Pretty easy to remember, eh?  Anyway, the site is pretty self-explanatory in terms of finding everything.  So check it out!  As I do more drawings and videos, Brad should be able to keep it updated so you can check in periodically and see if there is anything new!  I will still continue to post here on the blog.

"It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage."

So I had a lot "constructive criticism" on my drawing of Indy, so I tinkered with it to make it a bit better. It's not perfect (I think he looks old now...), but it's a bit better and hopefully he looks less like an Amish Muppet. Again, I'm not going for photorealistic here.

Update: Wow. I just did a side by side comparison and the first drawing looks pretty absurd. I'm still not happy with the second one, but it's A LOT better. It's hard finding a balance between cartoony and actually making it look like what you're trying to draw.

"I don't know. I'm making this up as I go."

Obviously it needs some color, but here's some Indy.

Back to leader board...MOE!

I have been (slowly) trying to work on a "family portrait" for The Gartland Spectacle, as per Matt Johnson's request from what seems like years ago. It's hard getting people I know to actually LOOK like people I know when I draw them, but I took a stab at a quick sketch of Moe the other night and think it came out pretty well. It's a rough sketch since she would only sit still for about a minute, but hopefully I will get around to coloring it (and drawing her some arms, legs, and a torso) in the near future.

The Lame Week

Hello, everyone (i.e. Moe, Matt, and little Charlie)! Just wanted to give a quick shout out to my friend Matt Coffey's website. It's at www.thelameweek.com. Matt is a good friend who has played roles in several of our movies, most recently as "The Runner" in the Yellow Datsun music video. The site is basically Matt's ramblings about his (fictitious?) life set to the tone of his own drawings. The site itself was set up by ANOTHER friend (I know, right?), Bradley J Carlson, who is in the process of setting one up for me. Enjoy your morning Coffey over at The Lame Week!
